François Ménissier was taught organ by Françoise Billiot, Bernard Lagacé, Norbert Pétry, André Stricker and Louis Thiry. Winner of the J. S. Bach Competition in Toulouse and titular of the great Silbermann organ in the Church of Saint-Thomas in Strasbourg from 1989 to 2003. Since 2000 he has been professor of organ at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement régional de Rouen and titular of the great Clicquot organ in the Church of Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs in Paris. He is also organist at the Temple Saint-Éloi in Rouen and curator of the Renaissance organ at Mont-Saint-Aignan (Seine-Maritime).

He has performed in most European countries and in Japan, either as a soloist or as a partner with, among others, the Psalette de Lorraine, the Maîtrise de Haute-Bretagne, Françoise Masset (soprano), Luc Marchal (baroque oboe), Volny Hostiou (snake), Jacques Bona (bass), the Ensemble Gilles Binchois and Dominique Vellard, the Chœur de Chambre de Namur, the Ensemble Les Meslanges and Thomas van Essen, the Ensemble A Sei Voci, and others.

His activities as a musician are enriched by a keen interest in the restoration and conservation of old instruments and in the history of organ building. The author of research into the Verschneider line of organ builders (18th and 19th centuries) and of the Inventaire des Orgues de Moselle (1988-1999), François Ménissier has been a member of the Commission nationale du patrimoine et de l'architecture since 1998 and is advisor on organs to the City of Rouen. He was president of the Association Aristide Cavaillé-Coll from 2017 to 2021.
